I did watch Return of the Living Dead.

For July third. It's kinda become an annual watch.

Um, I love it.

That's funny. I you know, ever since I first seen it.

And especially because w when I saw it kind of growing up in that time period where

period where you're

You're kind of tracking down like all the known zombie movies made from The video rental store and When I'm first watching it for the first time, I still remember it like it's like breaking all the rules of like what I thought made a good

But it's so effective and so well made and written and executed that

You just stop caring that it's like unlike any zombie movie you've seen before and it just became like a perennial favorite of mine. It's It's an easy watch.

It's quickly paced.

It's just So well done, so funny.

Gory. And just I like that they kind of change up the concepts.

and how the world works in there. And it's almost kind of like a satire in a way.

So that's first up.

Then I watched

Let's see.

A movie called Corpse Mania, uh.

And this is kind of like A it's a it's uh Asian movie that I got from Vinegar Syndrome on 4K and This one starts like it's gonna be like an over the top, gruesome.

movie which you would expect.

But really what it turns into is kind of like a

an Asian version of like a giallo. It kinda turns into more like a detective noir story about a serial killer.

in the town and there's actually not as much gore as like You would

Think.

And but we do get like some Maggot covered bodies a couple times which

Maggots gross me out. Just because it's like something come across in real life and it's always disgusting when it happens and So when you see on in the movie it just

always makes me think of like real life encounters. Not that it's a constant thing, but it's happened. Um We also got I watch I I've been uh I saw a movie or uh YouTube video like a few weeks ago.

That covered like nine

I mean

Uh i it was called like nine violent westerns.

That like are underseen maybe.

And

Uh I I compiled it on Letterboxd. I've watched a couple of'em. One of them's called A town called Bastard is

And I think the alternate title for US release or somewhere it was called A Town Called Hell. So If anyone's more familiar with that title, it is the same movie.

And this one, like, you know.

Your typical spaghetti western setup.

It's uh revenge.

Violence.

And the star in this one, Robert Shaw. So That alone made me want to watch it and Robert Shaw does not disappoint.

He just He emotes

Out!

just with the looks he gives the camera. He can just stand in her in the saloon and kinda like look in the direction of the camera and it's awesome.

So I also highly recommend that one.

Uh now for a goofy one.

Called Water Park Shark.

Uh th if if you know Donninelli, this is probably right up his alley.

Yeah, I I I went into it not expecting to like it because I'm not really much of a fan of the Asylum movies because I just think that.

They're not

tr even trying to be more than what they are. So it's like once in a while you can catch one.

And it's like, okay, I had a mildly decent time, but like it I and I don't I don't

think they're doing it anymore, but at that when sci-fi network was still around, maybe that sci-fi network still is around. I just Don't have a

cable package or I just don't notice. But there is at that one time where it was like they were churning out like it seemed like five, six every year. And it just felt like

the same low effort production. But I will say this one

It was kind of funny. I actually did find it amusing.

Now you're gonna get and and this isn't an asylum movie. I'm just kind of comparing it because it's the same kind of model of of film.

You are gonna get the terrible CGI digital effects. You can't really get away from that because that's Whatever shark scene is in here.

But just the fact like just the concept alone of like sharks.

accidentally get into a water park. So Water slides are like a part of Like the shark attack scenes.

That's the part I liked about it. They actually use parts of the park in the kill.

Kills.

Yeah, yeah. And I thought the story and the script was like decent for like this

level of movie. It kind of like exceeded what I was expecting and If you do that, then uh I I'm down.

I mean first of all, I'm like, you know.

Sharks would not be able to survive in chlorinated water. It just would not happen. They they they would just die.

Ele what did they say they were they were like electrically charged sharks or some shit? I forget what it was.

Yeah, with some ridiculous explanation to cover up for a ridiculous concept. But

To me, it's like once you commit to throwing on a movie called Water Park Shark, you're either in or you're out. As far as like the explanations go. And I was in.

Did did you watch Hungry yet?

Oh, the hippo one?

It was surprisingly good and well shot, I'm not gonna lie to you.

It was better than I was expecting. Even the hippo stuff was like better than I was expecting.

I mean for the other one, I was looking I was looking for like You know, that even like a random star.

Like to show up in this thing and be like the lead.

But you know, Sharknado had from from jump that's you got Guys that made Shark Nado.

So you were you were looking for like that that that maybe nineties heartthrob to show up and like be like the lead of this movie and it just didn't have it.

I think it was missing that.

Debbie Gibson in in King Cobra, wherever she was in. I forget which one she was in, but she's in a couple of'em and और दो I'm sorry.

You mean you mean Deborah Gibson.

I have The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen, which I got on Criterion Sale.

So good. Yeah.

Yeah. This is wacky.

But wacky good and I think I had seen bits and pieces of it as a kid and It's kind of one that It really takes you kind of back to when Childhood movies They somehow managed to make the content child friendly, but also like dark and creepy and adventurous and thought provoking and

Just weird. Like it there's a There's a lack of safety.

Safety.

the child movie or child uh focused movies back then that you don't really see now. Like it it feels like once Pixar kinda took over the world of like Movies that children are gonna see.

They just become very light and That's not to say they're not good,'cause plenty of'em now are good.

Good.

But I just There's I don't know, there's a sense of danger to like Uh child movies from

back then and this one like there's nothing like explicitly Over the top or anything, but like the effects, the set pieces, the costumes, the characters.

So good in this. Um and I feel like yeah, this is one that you can watch multiple times and get different things.

out of multiple viewings because there's so much to look at on the screen. It's just whimsical.

And it's just fun to look at and you know.

I remember the promos on HBO and that's what drew me to it when I was a kid to to check it out and You know, y you turn this on and time ban this on in an afternoon.

Terry Gilliam one two punch right there. That's a good thing, you know.

Hell yeah.

And then uh my last one that I'll bring up.

I got this From vinegar syndrome.

also and this is a Shaw Brothers horror movie.

Which for those that aren't aware, I mean, you know, Shaw Brothers Studios They have like well over a thousand movie productions and they're mostly known for like the kung fu martial arts, wire fu.

Firefox.

All that good stuff and there's a lot of great ones, but They also have a pretty decent collection of

horror movies. And the interesting thing is like they usually in their horror movies they incorporate some martial arts stuff into Um whatever the horror

horror.

uh uh of the movies are too. So basically this one is a story of these two They're kinda like, you know, well it's a small village, but the two kind of Rich guys of the town

Mm.

I mean that's a very generic way to describe'em, but I just forgot the details of like what their t titles are, but you know, they're they're rich in their rivals and they just have the I guess in the village there's like an annual lantern.

making contests for like who can make the most sturdiest and best lantern.

And One of the guys I I think he's been losing in the past so

He gets like a tip about like this Almost kind of like witch doctor slash Weird villainous.

pure person that oh he makes the best lanterns and then it turns out he makes them out of human skin.

So Uh this movie like just Blends the horror elements.

It's gory.

Um it's it's fun.

It's it's er when I when you say Sharbell is horror movie, this is everything you would expect it to be. And the cool thing is the

The four K release came with two endings, the original, I guess Cantonese ending.

And then the other ending and I can say that like I won't spoil exactly what happens in either one, but I would say this is a case where both endings are kind of dark.

But one's

I guess a little bit darker. I feel like the the The dark dark ending is more fitting.

as like a moral story.

But the other ending also kind of fits as well. So like you can't really go wrong. So what I did as I watched the

the original version first and then threw on the other one and kind of uh

skip to the ending just to see the difference. Either one works.

So human lanterns highly recommended and I'll leave it at that.

Nice. I never seen noise I think I only saw the Golden Vampires one. Uh as far as the Horror Shaw Brothers one goes.

There's like a leg legend of the golden vampires or something with the golden vampires, I forgot it's called but

But yeah, I I've seen like Black Magic and Black Magic Two and there's a couple th other ones that I have seen, but like I said, Shaw Studios it's like No matter how many you've seen Once your algorithm starts spitting'em out to you, it's like it feels like

Unlimited. Like it it never ends.

I've watched Widows Bay.

Which I absolutely adored. I love

And a little bit of a A little bit of everything.

There's only one thing that aggravates, but we the season two so hopefully it'll be explained. Last episode is It didn't ring right to me.

But you know, we'll see what happens because it is renewed.

I also went through and watched Midnight Mass, which I hadn't caught in its first run.

I think I started the first episode a couple of times, but I just wasn't into it.

And I was just like, all right, I'm just gonna let this roll while I'm doing other things and bam.

Well I mean if I had a really good Good telling of Salem's lots at church.

I enjoyed the hello spoilers, sorry.

I enjoyed all of the actors in it. I was Actually kind of blown away by how hyper involved I felt with everybody in that show.

Audience Mike Flanagan and there's just I'm I'm not

I'm not an acolyte. I think he's more he's got a better body of work than a lot of people.

But there are some things I just don't work for me. But you know, once again, we all have our own tastes.

But I truly enjoyed तो बन्स अवाद लाद लाद लाद लाद लाद लाद लाद लाद It was it just ended the only way it possibly could have ended.

Yeah, like I've got I've had such bad short attention span theater. It's like I just can't throw on, you know, TV shows.

And I call one, I was looking for something a little suspenseful, a little intrigues, some spy shit.

So I watch the first season of Oh, God, what is it, Benny?

The make manager with Tom Hillston.

And he's one of those actors. I think he's a good actor, but I don't think he's like that super sexy badass.

But all in all, season one was enjoyable. Season two starting off the bang.

I'm enjoying I said he's just not that action hero type for me, but he's a Damn good actors, so I'll just let it fly.

Uh let's see. It's pretty much that

Uh speaking of T V, um X Men ninety seven's a bull effect people. It's been on for two weeks now and We have four episodes so far on the Disney Plus uh app there and

It is nothing more than phenomenal. They're they're jumping into The good Jim Lee Batman and Batman.

X-Men Ark. uh storylines and Um if you ever were curious why apocalypse hates mutants, then you'll you'll uh watch this per episode, you will find out exactly why and There's a certain death in in the last episode that I will not mention for spoilers' sake, but

People say it's more devastating that than when Gamba died in season two, to trying to save the mutants from from the The sentinels in Genosha, but uh I don't think so because I I still Well I w rewatch season one.

I get really emotional still when it goes to blood.

Black as you hear Rogue call out

I can't feel you and like man I I just start crying because he's dead. She she can't She touches him and feels nothing, you know.

I'm like, yeah, that's it's bad.

Yeah, last episode.

Oh boy, it did happens and you know, it's just like somebody else starts crying and I don't wanna give away who that is, but It is uh Nothing short of a master class of what Hero stuff should be.

And how it should be written and Adapted We're getting like supposedly ten seasons of this and we're only in season two and um I'm

I'm all in on X Men ninety seven. It makes me very excited because Original X-Men series said uh ninety ninety five.

Ah, cartoon show.

Had a lot of the creatives writing the episodes.

And it showed and here we have a lot of The creators writing these episodes and shows too and It's just...

It's just...

Man, it's amazing.

I forgive me should have been something else in the Stephen King film, but he's definitely in in that And then I...

And then uh I just wish they would turn beautiful things into a series.

Why watch the T V cut of it?

Which is, you know.

Well as you know more more character development and stuff and I am.

That's the that's the version I always watch when I when I need to watch it.

'Cause of the the little stuff they add to it, I I I Remember sitting, you know It was like a five hour runtime or a four hour runtime when it was on TNT'cause that's the only place you can watch it.

was on like TNT. The the the longer version That if you don't know it's an hour longer than the theatrical version.

Yeah, I think Kino put it out.

Where there's an extra feature, a special feature on there where you can watch That longer version.

So if you don't have the Kino Blu ray It looks good uh in comparison to uh

The copy that I've watched all these years, which had the little TNT um emblem in the in the in the bottom um right corner. So

It's good. It slams uh I guess I I would say Stephen King's best characters ever is um is our our our bad guy in this movie and Max Buncido uh plays him to a T. There's

It's the little shit. Like what he's writing in the ledger and He's laughing y and you see like His black teeth.

You know, sticking out as he's laughing.

It's just the way he plays it and I think uh

It's pretty good. It I laugh every time, um Amanda Plummer and I I forget the actress's name.

Is she the one that plays Marla Hooch in League of Their Own? The one that plays the the the the the bitch that wants to kill her dog?

I forget which one.

But she looks a lot like her, but yeah, they have their fight in the house and I'm laughing because when they fall through the window.

It's like this was to be expected.

And it just it just ramps up from there and I

I watched'cause I don't go to the movies, I watch this on a bootleg'cause I wasn't interested that much in it. I watched the new supergirl movie.

It's there. I I'll say that that the villain's really boring.

The logo stuff's really fun.

There's no there's no real peril except for When the dog is shot with an arrow that it's time to get down to business, I guess.

Because you know shoot crypto with an arrow and get away with it'cause you know, that that that doesn't happen.

This is the first time I got to discuss Superman film.

Because they made sure my dudes got paid before that movie even got made. The new the first Superman was in seventy eight, because Um Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.

Uh these guys were If you guys didn't know there were salary writers for DC.

So when they made Superman bubblegum and Superman radio drivers and Superman every fucking thing.

Those guys didn't see a dime.

for the for the for the creation that they made. They just sat there penul So when they were gonna make that movie the cell kinds Which is the family that made those movies, um Made sure those guys got recognition.

Mm.

Make sure they got paid because their their their their names were barely on That work.

That's fucking shameful, but that's like It's like, you know, when the the old old Hollywood system with the uh um contract players.

change the desk essentially. Y you work for them for for ten movies and that's

The only place you can go. Well, these guys were chained to the D C desk and They didn't see anything from Superman's success.

That's a atrocious and But it was it's so rewarding just to see the two is just to just know the story of that as a Yeah, they finally got recognition, they finally got paid, but Helen Slater, eighteen eighty four, I think it is.

Um was supposed to be much, much bigger if you didn't know.

She's supposed to be a part of Superman three. That didn't happen.

Especially the whole brainiac plot in Superman three, but that didn't happen either. It's it's it's it's a mess, but I love that beautiful mess.

Uh It it's campy f in all the right ways.

To the point where it's not a g it's not a good movie.

Because essentially, you know, if he delayed has a Gets a power for because she Find something that was flown in from from from Krypton or Candor or whatever the fuck they say she's living in in in in that dead galaxy and

Peter O Tool loses it, she finds it and she gets the power to control the weather and shit and Maybe it would disappear and reappear, all kinds of stuff and She falls in love with with um

The fuck's the guy's name from Die Hard with the beard. Oh but he has a beard in this. Uh Hart Bachner Isn't this movie as like the the squeeze that she sh the mid demands that she wants to get.

But he's in love with Supergirl and her Who's hiding that on Earth?

So such is that But it's done with with with such you know sort of love, I I I would say, and, you know, campiness and It's it's really It's really stupid but really enjoyable and I can't say the same Name for the new one.

I can't say that.

Although I hope that the the Lobo thing comes true to where

Momoa insists it's gonna be an R rated movie. I hope that They go through with that as unsuccessful as this one apparently is.

I hope that he gets his own movie and like they have a lot of fun with it. Um Other stuff.

And the funny thing is it it kind of starts out A little slow in plotting'cause we We spent a lot of time.

The magic of the elders and But that still doesn't help me really figure out what's going on in this.

When we when we kind of get our reveal Uh I guess you would say detachment from body.

of entity or whatever.

I'm just kind of like looking at the TV, like, what in the like we've been building up to this thing? Okay, I guess. And

I don't know. I mean uh in a and with all that said, I don't even dislike the movie. It's kind of hits that Kind of weird.

He's kinda like the the skeptic.

You know, and I I I like that that idea in the character and I I think we got just enough of him in the movie to say, you know what?

I've seen this movie.

several times. I love the seventies are probably My favorite era of movies.

Period.

They just played around with everything and in some cases just kept throwing shit at it until it stopped.

I've also read uh several of Brian Masterson's books and He does delve into the topic we're gonna get into after I talk of Little bit more about the movie.

Want to point out Tony Curtis is absolutely amazing in this movie. I love this dude.

And Little point, um Goblet that he was drinking out of my grandmother has said they were old.

Beer. Kind of beer glasses.

They were beer goblets, she had a set of them.

Because she didn't have one, but that's That was definitely a You know, swinging seventies.

I've really loved the robe.

And I think she was his assistant for a while. Well they said that in the movie, but no, she was his assistant.

They had a romance and they went their separate ways, but apparently the feelings were always there.

So of course when it comes to there's something weird growing on my neck, of course you're gonna go to your ex.

Wouldn't you do that?

But diving into a little bit more.

um Basically it's Indian folklore meets love craft.

because you've got all of the Indian witch doctor mysticism.

And then we start getting into the great old one.

You know, the devourer of souls, the star beast.

This is straight up the lovecraft hierarchy.

Of monsters.

I think the star beast is Amen.

As a tot or as I meant to look it up earlier, but I got a little busy.

And as for there's there's several genuinely creepy moments in this movie.

I know now we look at it.

And you know, seventies.

you know, campiness.

But there were still some genuinely creepy moments that we really need to appreciate.

And this is hers.

First.

Is floating down the hallway?

Come on, that is some creepy shit.

And the lighting on the seance. Yeah.

Watch that after dark when you're about fourteen years old. It'll it'll stick with you.

They do have some genuinely creepy moments, and I have to admit it is broken up into three very glorious acts.

First one set up, which they do.

It is a little slower moving, but you get a feel for who the people are.

The second, when they're starting to get to the root of the problem, they meet, you know, the wonderful eccentric Borges Meredith, who is А нашок трежор.

and gets pointed in the right direction.

and find somebody that might be able to help and understand what's going on.

But you know, here's the thing we're all waiting for.

Let's talk about the third act.

It is absolutely Shit. Insane.

Or a segment on on Creep Show, but no, it's a full length movie.

But you're you're made to believe in this film that that they buried, you know, this thing, the Sisapiel, they they they they bury aborted fetuses, they bury stuff like this.

See, people do, religious people do this all the time.

But you're you're meant to believe that once He shed the George Stark skin, he wasn't gonna be Right as George Stark anymore.

That this thing is fully formed in the ground.

And and let itself out.

It looks just like him, is walking around killing people.

And uh now For him to explain this to to police officers.

Yeah, would be a a foolhearted thing because it doesn't make any goddamn sense because First of all, speaker prints are there.

all over the crime scenes'cause he George Stark is is is dead Beaumont. They had the same fingerprints apparently.

So that doesn't work. They should have been in jail l long before They just they decided not to take him away again and again and again and again.

Yeah, the whole idea of, you know She gives the whole speech about, you know, I I like Fab Beaumont the way he is.

George Stark, you know, drinks, George Stark smokes, which means he drinks and smokes.

You know, when when he writes it when he writes George Stark.

and that's Again, more auto more autobiographical shit of you know the The the alcohol fuel the And cocaine fueled Stephen Kane that we all know.

that he once was and wasn't is not anymore, obviously, but back then he was not he was not terribly good to his wife, it was not terribly good to himself as as far as health goes and It just lays it all out there in in a in a book and in a script and in a film.

that, you know, this this is the way Stephen King was and yeah.

One of those things, we get it. We get we get what you're doing here, but When you get down to the kills again, I I cannot I cannot stress enough how good Hutton is is George Stark, but sucks is Dad Beaumont because the George Stark character

It's everything you want that he did. He supposedly wrote these books.

But like brought the flesh.

I mean, he's walking around with that razor blade looking badass.

Driving that tornado and The the the the scene where he's He cuts what says the the publisher's wife.

more of the film in my opinion,'cause that was the most interesting part of the film Was the science um And the the superstition uh laid out by Thad's professor friend.

about the sparrows and why they are and what they're what what they symbolize and Good old Timothy Hutton is as George Stark is is the best parts of this film.

E even Sheriff Painboard, I l I love Roker, but you know Much better portrayed by Ed Harris and and in Evil Things and much more Or

straight lace and and this is not how police work works. I mean if he

If the evidence is there, you you could take it away. So Sitting in a jail cell would have benefited Thad Beaumont at this point because Whilst George Stark is around murdering people.

He would have just been sitting in a jail cell say, you know what?

Which is an amazing idea, but I wish I would have seen The brutality of that scene, not just him pulling him out of a car window.

But again you wouldn't have got your al rating. You would you wouldn't have got that. So I get George George Romero who's been through the system of, you know, what makes an unrated film or what makes an R rated film.

And what he can do and what he can't do. So I respect him for that, but Again it's it's it's two hours and three minutes long.

Trim that down a little bit, uh, to about about buck forty five. I think it would have been a better movie too.
